Atlantic crossing crew jobs

Crossing the Atlantic is a milestone in any sailor’s life — and every autumn and spring hundreds of yachts need skippers and crew to get them across. Westbound crossings usually leave the Canaries or Cape Verde in November–December; eastbound crossings return in spring.

What to expect

  • ✓Westbound: around 2,700 nm from the Canaries to the Caribbean, typically 2–3 weeks
  • ✓Eastbound: via Bermuda and/or the Azores in spring
  • ✓Watch systems, self-sufficiency and good crew dynamics are everything

Paid vs. unpaid crossings

Many crossings found elsewhere are “crew pays share of food”. On Maritime Delivery, assignments are paid work: the pay, and who covers flights and food, are on the listing — and the client pays before departure.

Questions

What experience do I need for an Atlantic crossing?+

Skippers need ocean experience and an appropriate certificate (for example RYA Yachtmaster Ocean or Offshore with the right endorsements). Crew should have offshore miles, safety training and be comfortable with long watches.
